Reporting to the Manager, Strategic Projects, the Project Coordinator is responsible to provide administrative support to the Ottawa Tourism Team. This position will provide the successful candidate with an ideal opportunity to grow and develop their career in the Tourism Industry with exposure to multiple areas of the organization. We are looking for someone with confidence and a positive attitude to join us.

Essential Requirements

  • Two years of related experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and French
  • Degree or diploma in a business, communications, public relations, hospitality, sales or marketing related field
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and people skills, initiative and tact
  • Strong administrative skills
  • Ability to work with limited supervision
  • Experience in customer service in a fast-paced, multiple-priority environment
  • Proficiency in all aspects of Microsoft Office software and a proven ability to learn new programs/technologies
  • Good knowledge of local tourism assets


  • Event planning and management experience
  • Experience in media relations and/or tourism industry experience
  • Understanding of social media
  • Familiarity with digital asset management protocols
  • Familiarity with membership-based organizations
  • Fun and awesome

Primary Areas of Responsibility 

Project Coordinators at Ottawa Tourism support all departments through their organization of key projects. The below offers a short description of our various department areas and outlines the types of projects and responsibilities that you may be involved in. Please note that we do not require you to have experience in all areas, however similar or related experience in some areas is required.

Sales/Leisure Travel, Marketing

Our Sales and Leisure Travel Teams are responsible for selling Ottawa as a destination to conventions, major events, and group tour business. The marketing team promotes our city to the world through all media channels. We continually increase Ottawa’s exposure as a tourist destination to the world through social media and traditional marketing channels. Projects that regularly support sales and marketing staff include coordination of familiarization tours and site visits, logistical support for marketplaces and events, data entry into the CRM, responding to member and client inquires (both written and on the phone), online and digital content/asset management, coordination of contests.

Destination Development, Membership, and Communications

Ottawa Tourism is the voice of the tourism industry for Ottawa. We strive to better our destination through continued development of industry related projects including wayfinding, visitor servicing, product development and advocacy. As a membership-based organization, Ottawa Tourism works with over 425 tourism-related members to profile Ottawa and Canada’s Capital Region as a diverse place to visit. We tell the story of Ottawa through our partners and visitors. Media relations plays a vital role in our success. Projects that regularly support the destination development, membership and communications staff are organizing membership presentations and member events (including promotion, ticket sales, registration, etc.), assistance with membership renewals, compiling membership statistics, membership prospecting and communicating with current and potential members, editing listings for Ottawa Tourism's publications and website, research relating to destination development activities. Key projects for the communications team include liaising with local and external travel and business media; assisting in writing, translating and/or proofreading Ottawa Tourism publications and documents.
